I started this site because there was very little coverage of junior track cycling anywhere else. USA Cycling didn’t post results most of the time, and the big cycling web sites mostly ignored juniors. I started writing simple articles and posting the results I could get in person. After a year or two, other sites began to cover the juniors. I don’t know if they were interested, or just embarrassed by being outdone by one guy hosting a site out of his home office.
This year I put Junior Velo into semiretirement, comfortable with the fact that other sites were covering the biggest junior stories. Apparently I was wrong about that. Yes, it’s an Olympic year, but does junior nationals in the USA have to fall off the map completely? Nothing on cyclingnews.com, velonews.com, pezcyclingnews.com, or veloresults.com. Usacycling.org has an event announcement, but no results from the first day, even as day 2 events have (I assume) started.
It’s not too late for a volunteer author to jump in and be the first to break results to the world…
Just in case anyone is curious, here is the Olympic velodrome:

To see almost all of the world’s velodromes on one Google map, try this.
The evening kicked off with a horrendous crash in the second race of the night. Five people went down, one over the wall on the backstraight, in the second heat of the two-kilometer ”Dash for Cash.” Ben Fetterman of Emmaus, riding for Cycledrome, got the worst of it, catapulting over the backstraight wall below the grandstand. Fetterman was reported to have a significant leg injury, among other injuries.
Riders who went down on the ”Concrete Crater” included Michael Chauner (son of Pro Cycling Tour founder Dave Chauner) riding for PA Lightning, Tynan Farley of New Jersey riding for Young Medalists, Jose Medina of Chile riding for Mike Fraysse Sports.com and Stephane Cossette of Canada, riding for EVA Devinci.
Cossette got the worst of it on the track. He was tended to for about 10 minutes, walking way with his right arm in a sling and big ice pack on his right clavicle.
Apparently, this is only the third time anyone has ever gone over the wall in the 23-year history of the VPCC.
Also, former racers Patrick Gellineau and Mark Whitehead were inducted into the VPCC Hall of Fame tonight. For the full article, visit mcall.com
