Junior Track Cycling

Last Friday the Valley Preferred Cycling Center hosted the 10K International Women’s Challenge.  Local Junior riders Shelbe Eck, Mary Costelloe, Coleen Gulick, and Nina Santiago race head to head with legends such as Liz Reap, Catherine Cheatley, and Ashley Kimmet.  Winning the race was Laura McCaughey with Junior Australian rider Michaela Anderson finishing a close 2nd.  Video of this event can be watched on YouTube HERE.

An Alden Tanaka email led me to this photo. It’s a tiny (115 m) banked track which has been converted to a skate park. Apparently it was once a velodrome. It’s a rare new addition to the velodrome database, which currently includes 611 velodromes in 83 countries.
