Edinburgh Racers
It’s always good to find another program for young track riders out there. This one is in Scotland. The Edinburgh Racers are “warp-speed weans and turbocharged teens” to quote the web site.

I wish that I could say this represents the countries of the world fairly, showing which have the most active track programs. That’s really not true at all, but it does show which I have been able to gather the most information for. That is a function of how easily the information is found online, as well as which countries have had one or more people offer help by sending information or links.
As of today (January 19, 2006), here are the countries with the most current juniors in the Junior Velo database:
| 203 | ![]() United States of America |
50 | ![]() New Zealand |
49 | ![]() Australia |
| 30 | ![]() Germany |
30 | ![]() Great Britain |
7 | ![]() France |
| 7 | ![]() Spain |
6 | ![]() Netherlands |
6 | ![]() Russia |
The database has 791 riders. 437 are current - they will be no older than 18 in 2006.
Thanks to Jim Routledge for alterting me to the online results from the New Zealand National Championships, held January 9-14, 2006. The full results are available at Cycling NZ.
I have extracted the top 5 or so results from each of the timed events and entered them in the Junior Velo timed event database. You will now be able to compare results from this event with riders elsewhere in the world.
Here are the winners in their respective events and categories. To see deeper results, please use the database.

No insult intended to riders who did best in the mass start events. Those events are equally important, but it’s simply easier to compare results when they are based on time. Corrections are welcome, especially to the ages where I just assumed that each U17 rider was 16 and so on. Just leave a comment with the correct information and I’ll fix it.
Off topic - I have just uploaded a bunch of pictures from the WCCC Winter Road Training Camp. This event brings together riders from many of the West Coast colleges and universities, and this year non-conference college riders as well as juniors 16 and up were welcome. No track riding, but a chance to get in some winter miles in a beautiful part of California (the same area the Discovery team and at least a couple of other pro teams visit each year).
The image page is in a vary bare-bones format, but it’s the easiest way for me to get 205MB of files online.
The USA team selection is out for the upcoming World Cup in LA. New rules are bringing in trade teams in addition to national teams, opening up more slots for riders.
Some recent juniors on the list are Ben Barczewski (junior class of 2005, team Spike) and Michael Blatchford (2004, U.S. National team/Veloworx)
