New Results Database Access

Filed under: Cycling — Administrator @ 6:48 am

Written from my place of exile, in a Ramada Inn over 200 miles from the nearest velodrome.

First, thanks to those of you who sent data or pointed out a missing velodrome. I have not lost your information and I will get to it.

This site now gives access to almost all of the timed event results I have collected. You can use the “timed event database” link on the sidebar to get there.

The amount of data varies by event and age group, but it will be growning as I collect more information. I hope that this will especially useful to young riders at less active velodromes, who will now be able to see how their times compare to others of their age and sex. Be careful of course - times can vary from one velodrome to another, and I might even have an error or two.

Enjoy.

New 8-14 Program at ADT

Filed under: ADT Event Center, Cycling, Junior 10-14 Sessions — Steven Woo @ 7:47 am

No announcement yet but ADT is starting a new free program for kids. I think they felt the competitive pressure from us. Just kidding. :)

From the two separate descriptions -

Student Cycling Mon, Wed, Fri 1:30 - 3pm Free Kids 8-14 years old over 4′ 6″ tall.

Student Cycling Program
Supported by the Amateur Athletic Foundation these lessons for kids 9-14 years is the first step toward learning safe cycling habits and possibly a future Olympic athlete.

Cribbed from fixedgearfever.com. I saw this earlier when I was searching the ADT site for a link but I am never sure if those long complicated links from www.homedepotcenter.com are going to be stable.

July 17 Junior 10-14 session 2-5pm

Filed under: Cycling, Hellyer, Junior 10-14 Sessions — Steven Woo @ 3:59 pm

Steve Ryan has a scheduling conflict and will be unavailable for this session. However, we will still hold the Junior 10-14 training session on it’s regularly scheduled day (third Sunday) during it’s regularly scheduled time (2pm-5pm) and our special guest coach is scheduled to be elite rider and coach Matt McNamara. Matt has worked with athletes at all levels in all types of cycling and has a degree in exercise physiology.

Since the Hellyer velodrome web page is under construction, check this web page for information and updates.

Thank you!

Filed under: Cycling, USA Nationals — Administrator @ 2:25 pm

Thanks to the many people who made our trip more enjoyable and easier. I could never hope to name everyone, but here are some.

  • Ed and Dina Hayduk for arranging our accomodations, saving us a lot of money at the cost of their own time.
  • Farid Abraham for coaching Jim, Matt, and Daniel with no profit for himself.
  • Ron Horn for mentioning this site on the velodrome site.
  • Hilda Patton and Nancy Seay for better access to results data.
  • Joy Shaffer for the double bike case.
  • Barry and Alden Gordon for the wheel case.
  • Phil Aaronson for the use of his 100-400 Canon lens.
  • Paul Sadoff of Rock Lobster Cycles for building two great track frames.
  • Easton for team sponsorship, bars, stems, seat posts, and forks.
  • Specialized for team sponsorship and the helmet.
  • Los Gatos Bicycle Racing Club for pulling a lot of this together.
  • T-Town and the surrounding area for being full of people who offered help, did favors, or just made us feel welcome.
  • Visitors to this site for keeping me motivated and occasionally correcting my errors.
  • My wife Kathy for handling the lion’s share of our logistics while I was obsessed with the camera or staying up late posting results.

This site may be pretty quiet for a few weeks, but I’ll keep posting results of junior events when I can, and generally writing about junior track cycling.

Results Status

Filed under: Cycling, USA Nationals — Administrator @ 2:03 am

All of the individual event results are in, I believe. There will be a delay in the team event results while I figure how to store and display them properly (something I didn’t prepare in advance).
For now here are the top three for Madison, Team Sprint, and Team Pursuit:

Madison:

Place Name Points
1 Team Fuji (Schenck/Kline) 16
2 Echelon/Mob Squad (O’Reilly/East) 10
3 Lombardi Sports (Holloway/Ruhl) 10

Team Pursuit (a little unsure on this one - didn’t get exact morning results):

Place Name Time
1 The Who? (O’Reilly/East/Holloway/Downing) 4:48.316
2 T-Town Express (Ruhl/Brown/Simes/Santiago) ?
3 Vortex (Oberly/Kinzey/Jacoby/Reinert) ?

Team Sprint:

Place Name Time
1 New on the Block (Barczewski/Schnabel/Hartfeld) 1:04.926
2 Triple AAA (Holloway/Fox/Kline) 1:07.689
3 ACT (Byrd/Miller/Espinoza) 1:10.411
