Hellyer Friday - June 10

Filed under: Cycling, Hellyer — Administrator @ 11:51 pm

Friday night saw a good turnout of juniors, with dedicated races for the youngest riders and Cat 1, 2, and 3 racing for the more experienced.

There are a lot of pictures today, largely because I have a new camera at last. You are seeing only a small fraction of the shots I took, which filled a 1-GB memory card. In the learning process some of the pictures were poorly exposed and required heavy post processing, but this should happen less often as time goes on.

Hellyer - Wednesday Night Rainout

Filed under: Cycling, Hellyer — Administrator @ 11:13 pm

Wednesday had a decent turnout of juniors, but after just a few heats the rain, which had threatened all day, finally started. It wasn’t much, but the track was looking slick.
Rain stops the racing, but not the juniors
Daniel, Daniel, Steve, Dawn, Jim, and Ben kill some time before the racing is officially canceled. (Okay, we’ll call Steve and Ben honorary juniors.)

By the way - the way images were displayed before will probably return - to make it easy I have to port some WordPress modifications to the new version.

Welcome to the New juniorvelo.com Host Location

Filed under: Cycling — Administrator @ 9:05 am

This site has just made a change of physical location. If you see this message, you are using the new host. There will be small changes, but this should be mostly the same site you are used to. Here’s what I expect:

  • Serving of the site, especially images, should be faster and more consistent.
  • The site won’t go down when I’m out of town and my Linksys router stops talking to my DSL modem.
  • The site will be running on a newer version of WordPress, but older versions of PHP, MySQL, and Apache.
  • For a few hours you may get either the new location or the old one, depending on DNS updating issues.
  • You will see this article only if you are on the new site.
  • Some features, such as the “Top Searches” list will be missing until I port their code to the new system.
  • Comments will require manual approval only the first time you make one.
  • I’ll soon be able to shut down my server, and possibly save more on electricity than the cost of the new hosting service.

Small changes to the site are to be expected, but if you notice broken features or links on the new site, and especially if the site becomes slower or less reliable, please leave a comment.
