On Sunday May 1, Steven Woo and I will be running a practice session for the youngest two groups at junior track districts, 10-12 and 13-14. We’ll be devoting our usual Sunday session to running through as many of the races for districts as we can. Same races, but less pressure because these are not sanctioned races and they don’t count for anything. It’s just a good way for the new riders to get used to riding these events, warming up on their own, showing up at the start line and so on. We’ll split the two age groups, and also split boys and girls if there are at least 3 of each.
Be there at 2 on May 1st, and we’ll race until close to 5. Be sure to bring a parent if you don’t have a 2005 release form already on file at the track. The sessions are free except for parking. If you have never been to one of these sessions, please read this.
We will run the events in this order, which may be different than at districts:
13-14 Standing 500 meter time trial
10-12 500 meter scratch race
13-14 2000 meter scratch race
10-12 1000 meter scratch race
13-14 10000 meter points race
10-12 2000 meter scratch race
13-14 5000 meter scratch race
In addition to your usual equipment, bring a wind trainer or rollers if you can. You will ride better with a warmup, and there will be no time to warm up on the track between races.

UPDATE: The official version of the flyer is posted on the promoter’s site as of May 20, 2004. You should consider that the definitive version, rather than the one I posted here on April 28.
One note – the flyer appears to have an error. There should be an omnium for 10-12 women and not for 17-18 women. In other words, the events are the same for men and women, except for some differences in distances for the older riders.

Just a few pictures I wanted to put up from last Tuesday’s junior workout at Hellyer.
The usual Tuesday afternoon crowd. Jim and Ben warm up while Matt and Daniel get ready to ride. Coach Farid Abraham is at back right.
Jim Ryan of LGBRC/Easton/Specialized shows off his new Specialized helmet and Easton bars, stem, and seat post. This Rock Lobster isn't built with Easton tubing, but the next one will be.

Juniors were a significant part of the racing at Hellyer Park last night. Daniel Holloway took second in the A omnium, while Jim Ryan and Matt Mosby took second and third in the B group. Each of the three won at least one race. Kim, Kelly, and Michelle LaFleur got some speed work by racing in the B group, in the absence of a women’s field.
The B pack mid-race, including juniors Jim Ryan and Matt Mosby (Red/yellow kit) and Kim LaFleur (Green Webcor kit and one Swift armwarmer) near the front. Kelly and Michelle are hiding in the back.
Jim Ryan chats before the first B race. What a sponsor shot - arm carefully placed to not cover the Testarossa Vineyards name on the shorts, he sports a Specialized Helmet along with Easton stem and carbon track bars. Hula Networks shows up well on the shoulders.
Daniel Holloway leads Jim Ryan into a spinout during warmup.
Kim and Kelly LaFleur pass the Alto Velo/Webcor sign in turn 2.
Michelle LaFleur wraps up her warmup.
