Junior Worlds in VeloNews

Filed under: Junior Worlds — Administrator @ 4:41 pm

The September 20 issue of VeloNews has an article on the World Junior Track Championship. It covers about 4 pages and seems (I haven’t even read it all yet) to cover the event pretty broadly. Pictures include Australian, German, US, and Chinese cyclists.

The article is referred to as “THE FUTURE IS NOW” or “HISTORY IN THE MAKING” depending on where you look. Either way, get a copy.

You can go to the VeloNews website, but I don’t believe that they are posting the content of the article there.

Trackies Can Do Road Too

Filed under: USA Nationals, Uncategorized — Administrator @ 6:54 pm

What do these riders have in common besides their jerseys? They all race the velodrome and all won medals at road nationals. Nine medals for four riders.

No, not all of them consider track to be their primary discipline, but track experience never hurts.

By the way, their team is the Los Gatos Bicycle Racing Club. The team kit includes cycling shorts, not shown here…

Junior Worlds, Day 1

Filed under: ADT Event Center, Junior Worlds — Administrator @ 6:20 am

Day 1 at Junior Worlds started with men’s individual pursuit qualifying in the morning, and finals for the women’s points race, the men’s kilo and the men’s scratch race in the evening.

For detailed results I recommend veloresults, which currently is a copy of the information which was available on the intranet at the event. It’s a less convenient format than some of the sites out there, but the information is very complete. I also recommend copying anything important to you soon - veloresults does not seem to make archived results available.

One note on the formatting of this article - I’m experimenting with letting the pictures “float” on the page with their captions. I know that this may look odd in some cases, but one of my private reasons for maintaining this site is to learn these things. Please bear with me. If you know css and html feel free to post suggested improvements in a comment.

Medal Counts

Filed under: ADT Event Center, Junior Worlds — Administrator @ 11:18 am

My gut reaction is that counting medals is often a crude expression of nationalism, and misses the point of celebrating what the athletes accomplish in each event. Then curiosity gets the better of me…
